The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality uses water quality standards to assess whether the quality of Oregon's rivers and lakes is adequate for fish and other aquatic life, recreation, drinking, agriculture, industry and other uses. DEQ also uses the standards as regulatory tools to prevent pollution of the state's waters. The Clean Water Act requires states to adopt water quality standards designating beneficial uses of the state's waters and setting criteria designed to protect those uses. States submit their standards to the federal Environmental Protection Agency for approval. This feature contains a spatial representation of Oregon's Water Quality Standards. |

Public data. There are no restrictions on access to the data set. This data set is designed to be used for regulatory purposes by DEQ to prioritize, plan, and develop Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and water restoration activities, and as an information source for permitting point source and non-point source wastewater dischargers. The data set is available to the public as a reference and for water quality management purposes. DEQ recommends that all users pay careful attention to the contents of the metadata file associated with these data. The information and data are provided with the understanding that conclusions drawn from such information are the responsibility of the user. |
